It is not surprising that Frankincense was given to the Christ child.
It is the king of all oils!

Frankincense - Boswellia frereana

Perhaps the most precious of the ancient oils, Frankincense is highly sought after by modern consumers for its many uses, including relaxation, immune support, and mood enhancement.

Frankincense is one of the oils I take internally daily! It has been used for its medicinal properties for thousands of years.  One of the oldest medical documents known to man dating back to 1500 BC recorded the use of Frankincense oil by physicians and priests alike for the treatment of disease and illness. Frankincense was considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and was sometimes exchanged for gold. It was of great value then and even now the difficulty in sourcing makes it one of the more expensive essential oils.  dōTERRA Frankincense comes from the country of Oman, and the oil is steam distilled from the resin tears extracted from the tree. Frankincense, by far, is my very favorite essential oil.  (Although there are many close seconds.) Many people, myself included, find that Frankincense helps to stabilize moods as well as calm anxiety and nerves.  This is not surprising, since Frankincense is one of the few oils that can pass the blood brain barrier and is therefore often recommended for issues dealing with the brain.  It’s also a great immune system booster as well as an incredible anti-inflammatory.  Basically, Frankincense is good for just about everything.  It’s great on cuts and scrapes, skin conditions, digestive issues, it’s an anti-depressant, anti-catarrhal, anti-cancer, anti-tumor, expectorant and sedative, just to name a few.  One to two drops on the bottoms of the feet would be beneficial any time of day, and a great addition to morning or nightly routines. For aromatic, topical or dietary use.

Tips on how to use Frankincense essential oil:

  • With a lung infection such as bronchitis, Frankincense is inhaled, rubbed into the chest, or dropped into a warm bath.
  • With the flu or cough, it is used to relieve bronchial congestion and calms the cough allowing for a good night sleep.
  • Rub a drop into your crown to start your day. Because Frankincense can cross the blood-brain barrier, it is excellent for anxiety and/or depression.
  • In Egypt, Frankincense was used to preserve mummies. Today it is recommended for aged or mature skin. Applied to the face it can tone and diminish wrinkles. Use in younger skin formulas to retain youthful skin.
  • For stress, Frankincense calms and quiets.  It is particularly beneficial in baths and massage.
  • Open wounds are safely treated with Frankincense because it prevents infections, stops scarring, and seals the wound creating a natural bandage.
  • Cancer treatments can include Frankincense especially for bladder cancer and tumors. There seems to be something in Frankincense that inhibits the growth and diminishes cancer cells. Science seems to be taking this seriously as there are several teams researching this.
  • In massage therapy, frankincense is used to relieve muscular aches and pains as well as pain of arthritis.
  • Breathing Frankincense essential oil deepens and slows the breath. This calms the body allowing productive prayer and meditation. It also helps relieve asthmatic symptoms.
  • Why did the wise men give Jesus Frankincense? It has the remarkable ability to make things holy, special, and sacred. Frankincense is still used in churches and holy spaces to clear negative energy and elevate thought and mood.

Did you know?

Modern research into Frankincense Essential Oil

It’s nearly impossible to list all of the benefits linked to this potent essential oil.  Science is just beginning to understand some of its more prominent benefits.

In 2010, BBC News ran the article “Frankincense: Could it be a cure for cancer?” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8505251.stm

In August 2013, Livestrong.com ran an article “Frankincense and Cancer”.

Internet searches reveal a multitude of testimonials regarding cancer abatement after the application or ingestion of Frankincense oil.

Researchers from Japan and the University of Maryland both determined that Frankincense oil has anti-inflammatory properties.  Studies have shown that the boswellic acids in Frankincense have an anti-inflammatory action, much like the conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used for many inflammatory conditions today.  This is critical when you realize that inflammation is widely-believed to be the root cause of many chronic and degenerative diseases, from heart disease to diabetes to Lupus and Crohn’s disease to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease to arthritis to cancer.  http://content.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,20040223,00.html  And it takes on even more significance when you consider the serious risks posed by most of these drugs, from cardiovascular risks to joint deterioration to cancer.

Clinical studies using Frankincense have shown its benefits for both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.  Its anti-inflammatory properties have also been shown to make Frankincense a safe and effective treatment for asthma, inflammatory bowel diseases, such as colitis, Crohn’s disease and ileitis.

French medicinal uses of Frankincense include asthma, depression and ulcers.  Its anti-inflammatory properties make it perfect for bronchial restrictions with asthma and bronchitis.  Several properties of the oil make it beneficial for indigestion and ulcers.
